Oh, and Marion does her best Princess Peach impersonation and has been kidnapped-again. Unfortunately, on a trip to the ruins of San Francisco, some familiar ne’er-do-wells ambush Billy and Jimmy. Might makes right amongst the survivors of this post-apocalyptic wasteland, and so the benevolent Lee brothers have been traveling across the country trying to open up new dojos (it’s all about those franchising rights!) in an attempt to teach people to better defend themselves. The world has gone to hell after the events of the last game as nuclear war has decimated everything. So, with the 30th anniversary of the original Double Dragon being celebrated this year, Arc System Works decided to finally continue the original story, picking up after Double Dragon II: The Revenge-Double Dragon III: The Rosetta Stone took place between the original two games-and deliver unto us a true 8-bit successor in Double Dragon IV. Later chapters only cemented the adoration for brothers Billy and Jimmy Lee, and it was a staple for many young fans of the genre-myself included.

In a time where beat ‘em ups were establishing themselves as one of the kings of the coin-op machines, the original Double Dragon debuted in arcades in 1987 (a full year before being ported to the NES) and it immediately became a co-op sensation. but overall this is my favorite double dragon game and one of my favorite snes games behind only super punch out!! and castlevania 4.Few games are more of a prime example of the late arcade/height of the NES-era than Double Dragon. Duke at the end is a reasonable challenge and it is disappointing though how weak giant Carlem is. levels 2 and 5 are a bit long but there are not so difficult where you get frustrated and if you play well enough you can beat the game.

the levels are fun like the casino in level one. steve, mcguire, giant carlem, and karate master duke. i like the part in mission 4 where you will run into all the big bosses on the street. it is can be long in some stages level 2 for intance but not long repetetive and difficult like stage 4 in final fight is. Read full reviewĪfter suffering through the long, tough repetetive final fight and after playing the awful double dragon the shadow falls which is god awful, i was long searching for a fighting game the resembled the original double dragon, then i stumbled upon this one and this game was exactly what i was looking for. Fighting with each other for the better weapons and stealing each others kills is a blast.Ī great find and a great time killer if you own a copy of this game. And all 3 kills were my last 3 times playing this game. I personally have only beat him 3 times in a long history with this guy. Speaking of bosses, the last boss is brutal.

Some of the bosses will just plain kick the crap out of you a few times before you figure out how to hit them safely. This game does take a little bit of thinking when it comes to the boss fights though. This game can be hard and is not for the below average player. The stages bring different environments to the player and many different bad guys to kick the crap out of. The weapons are fun and some are just overpowered. You get some neat skills and a rather large arsenal of attacks you can use. Super Double Dragon (Super Nintendo, 1992)Ĭlassic "beat em up" game.

Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned Some may find this ok but it's not welcoming to people who might not be that familiar with this style of beat-em-up. There's no ample time for recovery so before you know it, you can get waste a life j ust by the first 2 guys in the game without even getting a hit in. You have to pick up quick that you need to counter everything which buys you time from being attacked. I don't mind difficulty but as soon as you jump in enemies start the classic beat-em-up surround tactics and pummel you. DD doesn't have a deep backstory but it would have been nice to follow some kind of arc. No opening scene with Marian (sp?) taking a hit from thugs. It feels unfinished and there's no story. It's all about understanding enemy attacks and countering. I like this port of DD b/c it's different from all the others. Good Double Dragon but different from the rest
